Thickwood is close to the middle of town. The region's economic development office calls it one of the larger neighbourhoods. Most shops are on the east side, with small strip malls, restaurants, and schools spread through it. Dickinsfield sits next door, where Thickwood and Timberlea meet.
Thickwood Heights School is at 96 Silin Forest Road. Westwood Community High School is at 221 Tundra Drive and serves grades 7 to 12. Father Patrick Mercredi Community High School is at 455 Silin Forest Road. St. Gabriel and Westview are elementary schools here too. Check with each school board for your street before you buy.
The Birchwood Trails run between Thickwood and Timberlea. The region keeps about 135 km of trail through the forest, with flat loops on the edge and steeper hills in the ravine. The region suggests starting at the Doug Barnes Cabin beside 190 Tamarack Way. Watch for bears and carry bear spray.
The region's emergency plan for Thickwood sends traffic from streets like Timberline Drive, Woodland Drive, Cornwall Drive, and Dickins Drive to Thickwood Boulevard and then Highway 63. The backup route runs Thickwood Boulevard to Confederation Way. Top hazards are wildfire, a major pipeline release, and a dangerous goods release.
Close to the middle of town, between downtown and Timberlea. Thickwood Boulevard is the main road in and out, to Highway 63.
