Lower Townsite is the downtown of Fort McMurray. The economic development office says it is home to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre and an assisted living centre. Franklin Avenue runs right through it, with stores, restaurants, Peter Pond Mall, and hotels.
The region's emergency plan splits Downtown into zones north and south of Franklin Avenue. Each zone has its own route to Highway 63, using streets like Morrison Street, Hospital Street, and Hardin Street. Find your zone in the plan before you need it.
The plan counts about 1,100 people who would need a ride out, which it says is about 10 percent of the area. Buses take people straight to a registration centre.
Yes. City plans say Lower Townsite. Most people here just say Downtown.
